A Google search for gold detectors reveals many counterfeit devices from abroad that are labeled “Made in Germany”—yet there are very few manufacturers of metal detectors in Germany.

Most “Made in Germany” suppliers are fraudsters from abroad who replicate devices in China and Turkey, which they then offer through dubious dealers with unrealistic features and specifications.

When purchasing a metal detector manufactured in Germany, the following tips will help protect you from fraudsters:

1. German certificate of origin
   Request the certificate of origin from the German manufacturer. This official document is only issued by the German Chamber of Industry and Commerce for the respective product manufactured in Germany and is therefore only available to official German manufacturers.
2. Check manufacturer information and certificates
   Foreign suppliers advertise with fake certificates. Often, the certificates are simply created by the suppliers themselves. Therefore, check whether the document was issued by an authority or official body, as other certificates are useless. You can have the official address of a German manufacturer confirmed by the Chamber of Industry and Commerce. It often turns out that the address provided and the alleged manufacturer do not exist at all.
3. Visit the German manufacturer
   Many alleged manufacturers are only dealers of foreign devices and can only be found at the addresses provided for a short period of time. A reliable manufacturer of metal detectors has been on the market for many years and offers service and warranty services at its own premises. Buying directly from the manufacturer also offers the great advantage of having the manufacturer’s technicians explain and demonstrate the products.
